Hair Oiling Myths
Myth 1: Hair oil will make my hair greasy.
We’re often asked if hair oiling can make hair greasy. The answer is no, not if you do it right.
The real cause of oily-looking or greasy hair is usually an overproduction of sebum on the scalp.
A hair oil with the right properties could even help rebalance this overproduction and reduce greasy hair.
Formulated with natural, non-comedogenic ingredients, hair oil can nourish the hair and scalp without leaving a heavy residue.
Myth 2: More hair oil leads to better results.
More doesn’t mean better when it comes to hair oiling. This can potentially worsen issues for those with oily, damaged or fine hair.
Applying excess oil can clog hair follicles, leading to hair loss and dandruff.
Applying excessive amounts of oil to your hair and scalp, you’ll then need to use more shampoo to remove it. This can strip hair of its natural protective oils which can cause dryness.
Instead, focus on applying a few drops of oil onto the scalp and then gently smooth over the ends to prevent over-saturation.
Myth 3: Oiling your scalp every day is essential for hair growth.
Oiling your scalp daily is not essential to see hair growth results. Over-oiling can clog hair follicles and weigh down fine strands so it's best to be intuitive with your routine rather than prescriptive.
Myth 4: Oil must be left overnight for effective results.
Applying hair oil overnight may have the potential to clog hair follicles. Create scalp irritation.
May leave hair feeling heavy and greasy feeling. In some cases, prolonged oil use and clogged pores can weaken hair roots and potentially lead to hair loss.
Myth 5: Hair oil is a one size fits all.
Two people with the same hair porosity will not necessarily benefit from applying the same amount of oil throughout their scalp and hair.
There are still some variables involved, such as scalp health, hair health, hair texture and curl pattern.
What works the best for me with this hair oil, is 4 -5 drops massaged in all over my scalp and then what is left goes all over my hair all way down to the ends.
My hair length is around my shoulders, it's also multi textured, and also has at least two different types of curls going on. So for my hair, if I put a whole dropper full all over my scalp and throughout my hair, that would be way too much. I would be dealing with oily buildup not only on my scalp, but my hair strands as well.
So, please, regardless of what type of hair oil you are using on your scalp and hair, be open to starting out with a smaller amount and make adjustments if necessary.
To get the best results, follow these simple hair oiling tips:
Massage all over your scalp with your fingertips or by using a hand held scalp massager before applying hair oil.
This helps to stimulate blood circulation to the hair follicles, which can promote hair growth and improve the overall health of your scalp.
Apply oil to clean hair to enhance oil absorption and help maintain a healthy scalp and prevent buildup.
