Goldenrod ~ Solidago

I love so much having the ability to get out and spend much needed time in nature. Not just for harvesting but for that energy connection and communication with the plants as well. So much wisdom available to tap into. Absolutely amazing.💖

On the day I took the above photo, I was reminded that when working with herbs it is important to treat the whole person and not just the symptoms.

I was reminded that the symptoms are merely a cry out from the body that there is emotional healing that needs to be attended to for one to fully heal;

and also that part of working with plants is learning to trust your intuition and trusting what you are feeling from the plants. That is, in part, where that communication between humans and plants take place. That is part of medicine making.

In energy healing, goldenrod's beautiful yellow blossoms represent the solar plexus chakra center, which is located about 2 inches above your belly button, just below your rib cage.

This area represents standing in your own power, self confidence, over coming fears.

A flower essence assists in the healing for those who are easily susceptible to peer pressure, those who are fearful to reveal their true selves.

Assists in strengthening one's sense of individuality, self trust and confidence.

Goldenrod has a tendency to be mistaken for being a culprit in causing seasonal allergies. The pollen is too heavy and sticky to be carried off by the winds so pollination is completed through the amazing world of insects. So, this lets goldenrod off the hook in regards to causing seasonal allergies.

Now, ragweed on the other hand, this plant can be found the same time of the year, Autumn, and in close proximity of goldenrod, and ragweed's pollination is completed via the winds. Ragweed = seasonal allergy culprit.

Medicinal properties; astringent, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, diuretic, analgesic, decongestant

As a diuretic, goldenrod is often used in treating urinary tract infections, bladder infections, kidney infections and kidney stones.

How does this work; by releasing excess water from your body through an increased urine flow. (Makes you pee more) This process flushes out bacteria from the kidneys and urinary tract system while the anti-inflammatory properties aide in reducing swelling and soothing of inflamed tissues.

The analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties have been used successfully in relieving symptoms of arthritis, muscles cramps and menstrual cramps.

An infused oil can be applied topically. A tincture or tea can be used internally. I have found that by treating the symptoms both internally and topically to be quite effective when pain is quite significant.

One of my favorite ways of using her healing is with a tincture for seasonal allergies.

Those astringent, anti-inflammatory, decongestant and antihistamine properties work at relieving itchy eyes, sneezing and sinus congestion. Also those headaches that sometimes come with seasonal allergies.

Goldenrod honey is also used for seasonal allergy relief as well as for sore throats and cold symptoms. Also very easy to make.

Fill a jar about 2/3 of the way with fresh goldenrod blossoms. Pour in raw honey until the blossoms are covered, put on the lid and slowly shake and turn the jar until the honey is mixed in with the blossoms.

Depending on who you are learning from, some people will say to leave the jar on a sunny windowsill, others will say place out of direct sunlight, some recommend placing in a cabinet. Anyway you choose is okay.

Just be sure to turn the jar daily. After 4-6 weeks it's ready to use. You can strain the plant material or leave in it. The honey can be used to soothe sore throats, cold, flu and allergy symptoms. You can add to hot water and sip, add to hot tea, or take by the teaspoonful.

A tea made with the fresh or dried blossoms offers a powerhouse of antioxidants.

Antioxidants work by protecting and repairing the cells from cellular damage - Damage caused from a poor diet, chemicals in our food, water, bath and beauty products.

Air pollution, pesticides, smoking, mental stress, emotional stress, lack of sleep. All these factors contribute to the weakening of our inner cellular structure - resulting in illness and at times, disease.

This info here is just a small portion of what goldenrod has to offer for healing. Be sure to continue on from here. 😊
